In today’s era of television reboot fever, one thing’s for sure: A Suite Life reboot is off the table — but Dylan and Cole Sprouse fans need not despair.
PEOPLE caught up with Cole, 24, at The CW upfront in New York City on Thursday and the Riverdale star revealed that while his twin Dylan isn’t focusing on acting these days, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a chance that the two might work together again in the future.
Of course, that would only happen “if the project is good,” said Cole.
“Something Dylan and I really don’t care much for is leaning into the identical twin thing,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense. It’s just cheesy and hokey, but if Lynch came up to Dylan and I and was like: ‘I have this creepy project that involves twins,’ I’d be hard-pressed to think Dylan and I would say no.”
“I mean, it just depends on the right project, of course,” he added.
So what’s Dylan up to these days?
“His pet project right now is almost finished — he’s opening up a big brewery over in Williamsburg,” said Cole. “He’s been doing that since he graduated. It’s going to be in the William Vale hotel.”
As for Cole, he’s busy starring on the hit new drama, which explores a very different side to the classic comic book characters of Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead, played by Cole. (Season 1 concluded last week, and the series was recently renewed for a season 2.)
“You know, I think the project knows what it is, which is really important for a show that’s this over-the-top and dramatic,” said Cole. “If it doesn’t lean into it referentially, then it’s kind of shameless.”
So does he relate to his character — the lovable, mysterious loner?
“Sure, but I think you have to,” said Cole. “I mean, if you don’t find any kind of empathy in the character, you’ll never be able to do a good job.”

And last but not least, we couldn’t help but ask Cole what he thought of the reaction to his first shirtless scene. (Spoiler: Everyone was very excited.)
“I try not to track that stuff too much, but I’m flattered,” he said with a laugh. “I do love a good validation now and then.”
A premiere date for Riverdale season 2 has not yet been set.
