Camila Cabello has been on a roll for the last couple of months. Since departing from Fifth Harmony in December and going solo, the singer has dropped two singles, announced an album, performed at several award shows and collaborated with music hitmakers Pitbull, J Balvin and Major Lazer. The 20-year-old also became a face for the fashion brand GUESS.
“Fifth Harmony wasn’t the maximum expression of me individually,” she told Seventeen earlier this year. “My fans are really going to know me from the music I’m writing. My goal is to be brave and open up my soul.”
Now, we’re learning that Cabello also missed out on major collaborations because of her commitment to the popular girl group. In a recent interview with the Elvis Duran Morning Show, the Cuban singer revealed that she did a demo with the GRAMMY award-winning group The Chainsmokers for their hit song “Closer,” which went on to feature Halsey.
“I loved the song,” Camila said, “but I had to turn it down because I was with the group at the time, and we were about to put an album out. I always tried to do my solo stuff off cycle, so that was super on, and so I had to say no, and then that was the number one song in the world.”
The single was on No.1 on Billboard charts for several weeks last year.
With her solo career blowing up and no commitments to a group, Cabello won’t have to pass out on anymore collaborations in the future. Her album, The Hurting, The Healing, The Love is set to be released this fall.
