Wilmer Valderrama Gives Uncensored Look into the Lives of His Celeb Friends

Wilmer Valderrama’s latest project proves just how much he marches to the rhythm of his own beat. The 37-year-old actor, who rose to fame thanks to his role as Fez on the popular That 70s Show, comes with a new—and rather unique—television puppet show.

But make no mistake, this isn’t your regular kid-friendly puppet show but rather figurines that come loaded with mischief and crazy stories that aren’t exactly suitable for children. The show, titled The Hollywood Puppet Sh!tshow, debuted on July 11th on Fuse and features uncensored stories from Valderrama’s celebrity friends played out by marionette puppets made identical to the celebs. The host of the show is no other than Valderrama himself, who also serves as executive producer, but he is in the form of a puppet.

Where did this unique idea come from? “My friends and I were thinking ‘man, we always tell each other these crazy stories that happen to us. Imagine if people were to hear the stuff that happens to us.’ I wasn’t going to do a talk show or an interview show so I thought of what would be the most clever way of doing it.” Valderrama told People Chica.

The concept of the puppets came later: “I kind of love the crime investigation shows, the ID (Investigation Discovery) channel where the victim, the inspector, the sheriff or the investigators are talking in a sit-down interview. They’re talking about what happened retelling the crime, and then all of a sudden, it breaks into reenactment with actors. I thought ‘what if we did that in a comedic way,’” he says.

The puppets are able to look identical to the celebrities due to cutting-edge technology. “We have a 3D printing technology that basically formulates and creates the puppets… then we use green screens to retell the story,” he adds.

} )();

The comedy series has six episodes, which are currently airing weekly. Some featured celebrity guests include Joe Jonas and actress Gina Rodriguez.

“Joe Jonas was the first one who jumped on board,” reveals Valderrama. “ said, ‘That’s hilarious, let’s do it! From then on, everybody fell in place.”

The actor says that since it’s release, the fans have reacted positively on social media. “They’re reacting super well to seeing how humble and open their artists are telling something crazy that happened to them,” says Valderrama. “In a way, it’s this magical moment between the fans and their favorite artists in getting to know them a little better. It’s kind of a love letter to the fans.”

The Hollywood Puppet Sh!tshow airs on Tuesdays at 10:30 pm ET on Fuse.
